The skeleton movements
838S skeleton movement
Hand-wound, ultra-thin, skeleton
Manufacture Piaget 838S ultra-thin hand-wound mechanical skeleton movement with small seconds.
An ultra-thin hand-wound movement measuring only 2.7 mm thick, the 838S skeleton movement is a variation of the 838P movement, from which it derives all its qualities. It boasts a balance with screws and an off-centred small seconds indication at 10 o'clock, a hallmark of Manufacture Piaget watchmaking.
In a genuine technical feat for an ultra-thin movement, its bridges and its mainplate were drawn as far as possible, then guilloched, thus creating a uniquely refined design with a guilloché sunburst motif shining out from the centre of the carriage, reminiscent of the sun's rays and the divisions of time.
The extreme delicacy of its execution offers a detailed insight into the marvellous complexity of its workings to the admiring onlooker. This skeleton movement belongs to the third generation of ultra-thin movements from the watchmaker Piaget.
The circular-grained mainplate and bridges, hand-drawn and bevelled, and the blued screws round off this exceptional movement, while remaining true to the aesthetic codes cherished by the Swiss watchmaking brand.
